The town of Dubai has records dated back to 1799. The Al Abu Falasa lineage of Bani Yas clan established itself in Dubai in the early 18th century.

In January 1820, the sheikh of Dubai was a signatory to the British sponsored "General Treaty of Peace".

Nowadays Dubai is an important tourist destination and port. For IT, finance and the rest of the service industry Dubai is developing as a hub, with the new Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

Dubai is divided into two main parts: Deira on the north side and Bur Dubai on the south side. Both sides have thier share of mosques and busy souks, hotels, office towers, public buildings, shopping malls, banks, schools, hospitals, apartments and villas.
