2. Money & Bank opening hours in Qatar

Qatar’s unit of currency is the Qatari Riyal (QAR). The rate of exchange in April 2014 stands at approximately one x Qatari Riyal = £ .16 GBP, OR roughly 6.25 Qatari Riyals = One x British Pound. The Qatar National Bank or (QNB) has the largest ATM network in Qatar and its state of the art ATMs give you access to a vast range of services, enabling you to pay bills, obtain statements and much more if you are a QNB customer. Better rates of exchange are likely to be obtained from banks and currency dealers in Doha city centre’s Grand Hamad Street. Try to avoid changing money at the airport or in Hotels, as the city centre banks generally offer considerably better rates. Qatari Riyal banknotes come in denominations of 500, 100, 50, 10, 5 and 1. Bank Opening hours. Banks are open from 7.30am until 11.30am Saturday to Thursday.

Qatar has a desert climate with occasional rainfall.

Qatar’s long hot summer is between May and October when temperatures generally exceed 35 degrees Celsius and regularly reach 45 degrees Celsius during high summer between June and August. A little rain in the form of occasional downpours between December and April should be anticipated.

Night time temperatures can creep down to around 15 degrees Celsius between December and March, but from April through to November temperatures rarely fall below 20 degrees Celsius and during high summer average lows of 25 to 30 degrees are common.

6. Dress and etiquette in Qatar

Qatar is a conservative Muslim country and you should dress accordingly. Dress modestly, particularly when out and about in the public domain. Shoulders should be covered at all times, you should not wear t/shirts or shorts and women should wear dresses or skirts which cover the knees and men should never be seen bare chested in public. When sitting talking, try to avoid pointing the toes of your shoes at people or the sole of your shoe that is offensive in a Muslim country
